This week's read: Twelve truckload lanes came down, five moved up, and rail eased on nine of ten intermodal lanes. Houston to Alameda is down $645, Baltimore (Sparrows Point) to Alameda down $535, Continental to Houston down $385 and NOLA to NJ down $230. Going the other way, Continental to Green Room is up $430, Alameda to Vancouver up $420 and Continental to Alameda up $150. Rail came down $20 to $70 on nine of ten intermodal lanes; Continental to Alameda was the one rise, at $25. It still beats truck by $1,190 to $4,915 on eight lanes. Houston to NJ and New Orleans to NJ remain the exceptions where truck is the cheaper move. One scheduling note: on this week's quote pass, Wednesday rail pickups out of Houston to NJ, Houston to Alameda and New Orleans to NJ priced $422, $227 and $582 higher than Thursday and Friday, and Alameda to NJ rail was sold out for Wednesday. Book those for Thursday or Friday.
