This week's read: Twelve truckload lanes moved up, five came down, and rail eased on every intermodal lane. Baltimore (Sparrows Point) to Alameda is up $1,245, Continental to Houston up $440, Baltimore to Portland up $400, Green Room to Alameda up $390 and Alameda to NJ up $350. NOLA to NJ is up $325. On the way down, Alameda to Vancouver eased $330, Alameda to Portland came down $155 and Houston to NJ dropped $95. Rail came down $15 to $45 on all ten intermodal lanes. It still beats truck by $1,815 to $4,445 on eight lanes. Houston to NJ and New Orleans to NJ remain the exceptions where truck is the cheaper move. One scheduling note: on this week's quote pass, Tuesday rail pickups out of Houston to NJ, Houston to Alameda and New Orleans to NJ priced $426, $229 and $589 higher than Wednesday through Friday. Book those for midweek.
